Gypsy Moth Survey Crew Members
Seasonal, Full Time
Roscommon County is accepting applications for Gypsy Moth Survey Crew Members. This is a seasonal, full time position that will begin on August 28, 2014 and last a minimum of eight weeks, possibly through December. Staring wage is $10.10 per hour plus mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle usage.
Minimum qualifications are: High school diploma or equivalent, possession of an active/valid driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle, and current automobile insurance. Applicants must meet minimum physical requirements of bending frequently, stooping, crawling, getting in and out of vehicles several times per day, walking/hiking and exposure to various weather conditions. Crew members will be expected to approach residences, provide information to homeowners and answer questions concerning the Gypsy Moth Program.
Gypsy Moth Surveyors will work under the direction of the Gypsy Moth Program Director to conduct fall Gypsy Moth egg mass surveys. Surveyors will work outdoors, walking several miles per day in various terrains. A minimum of one week’s training will be provided.
Ideal candidates will be able to read maps, follow compass directions, be open to using technology to include computers and Excel, possess knowledge of tree identification and have a general interest in biology and/or nature. The ability to deal directly with the public and work independently is also helpful.
