Clerk

The duties of the Clerk are prescribed by state statute and include: Clerk of the Court, keeper of the Circuit Court Seal, Clerk of the Board of Commissioners, Clerk of the County Election Canvassers, Clerk of the gun board, Register of vital statistics, files assumed name certificates and co-partnerships and is a member of the county plat board. Fees are established by law and turned over to the general fund.

Register of Deeds

The duties of the Register of Deeds are prescribed by state law and include official recording/filing of all legal documents affecting real property. Other duties are recording certificates of survey, land corners, micro-filming instruments, reception books, and abiding by a uniform statutory fee and system set by the legislature.

Licenses, Permits and Regulations

All licenses/permits are available by visiting the Clerk's office in the Roscommon County Building, 500 Lake St., Roscommon, Michigan

License/Permit Description Cost
Business Registrations Assumed names & co-partnerships $10
Birth Certificates Certified copies $7 first copy, $3 add'l copies purchased at same time
Death Certificates Certified copies $7 first copy, $3 add'l copies purchased at same time
Concealed Weapons permits 5 YR Permit $105
Marriage Licenses   $20

Marriage License Notes:

AGE: Both applicants must be 18 years of age/ 16 with parental consent. One applicant must be a resident of the county.

COUNSELING CERTIFICATES: Proper certificate of counseling from the physician or Health Department must be presented at the time of application.

WAITING PERIOD: 3-day waiting period for the license.

CERTIFIED COPIES: $5/first copy, $2/additional copies when purchased at same time.

OUT OF STATE MARRIAGE LICENSE:   $30
           - 
Must apply for license in county where you will be married.

Passports

Official International document $67 - 16-years of age and older: Good for 10 years

$55 - 15-years of age or younger: Good for 5 years

$67 -  Renewal: Issue date of passport not more than 12 years

Plus:  $30 Execution fee per passport

 

 

PASSPORT NOTES: Persons must present proof of their United States Citizenship with a certified copy of Birth Certificate, Naturalization Certificate or expired passport. You must appear in person. You must establish your identity with driver's license, previous passport, or naturalization certificate. You must have two photos taken within the last six (6) months, color or black and white, with white or off-white background. They must be front view, clear, and no larger than 2 inches by 2 inches. No school photos, vending machine photos or snapshots.

Cat/Dog licenses are available in the County Treasurer's office.
